Queijaria da Praça

shop · Bonfim · Porto

I love that Diana didn't come to cheese the conventional way - her background is in environmental sciences, and you can feel it in how she runs the shop. Queijaria isn't just retail; it's a quiet argument for small artisanal producers, slow traditions, and animals raised the right way. Culinary Backstreets called her "the green cheesemonger," which I think captures exactly what's going on here.

Diana and her employee, Victoria, are two of my favorite people to visit. So friendly and so passionate about providing Porto with the finest European cheeses. They will also pretty much force you to taste every cheese before they'll sell it to you and I haven't been disappointed yet. I genuinely look forward to my weekly visits and the cheese I take home.

Queijaria da Praça is a small specialist cheese shop on Praça do Marquês de Pombal, opened in 2019 by Diana and Rui. Before opening, they travelled to producers in Castilla y León, watched the herds, and even made a pata de mulo cheese themselves. The selection is built around small-producer cheeses sourced from Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, the UK, the Netherlands, and Germany - all 100% artisanal.
