I think I was just unlucky in that I didn't find myself in Matéria Prima until this last weekend. I've been in Porto for just over half a year so it's not that surprising, but this is exactly the kind of business I love. Music, zines, books, art, etc. Almost entirely out of the mainstream. I wasn't able to spend as much time as I wanted there, but I plan to go back for a lengthy stay so I can really dig through everything. I'm certain I'll find many things to tempt me.
Matéria Prima is Porto's oldest independent record shop. It was founded nearly 35 years ago by Paulo Vinhas, Miguel Sá, and Jorge Pereira, originally in a basement on Rua de Miguel Bombarda, and now occupies a larger storefront on the same street - inside Artes em Partes, sharing the building with the Dama Aflita illustration gallery.
