I was given some unusual gifts made from cork at Christmas and told I had to visit Cork Matters. After stopping in one Saturday afternoon, I now get it. Bowls, lamps, art pieces, and bags all made from cork and all really cool! One of the owners, Carlos, was happy to tell me all about their design and manufacturing process. I'm planning on getting one of their large wall art pieces as soon as I move into my own place.
Cork Matters opened in late 2021 inside Centro Comercial Bombarda, the small concept-store arcade on Rua de Miguel Bombarda. It is run by designers Alzira Peixoto and Carlos Mendonça, who treat the store as something between a retail space and a working studio - pieces are developed in dialogue with the people who come in.
