bar · Cedofeita · Porto
A wine bar inside a 19th-century private chapel - the original altar, wooden altarpiece, pulpit, and stained ceiling are all still in place. Fado on Thursdays, drawing sessions on Fridays, a terrace under a centuries-old plane tree in summer.
The building was constructed in the 19th century as a private chapel at the initiative of the 1st Viscount of Vilarinho de São Romão. It was deconsecrated more than half a century ago and has not hosted religious rituals since. Francisca Lobão - the owner and driving force behind the project - chose to work with the space rather than against it, preserving the altar, the dark wooden altarpiece, the old pulpit, and the stained wood ceiling, and adding wine and people.
