bar · Santo Ildefonso · Porto
A few square metres of floor space, every inch covered in Brazilian clutter - bottles, parrots, toucans, hats. Owned by a man who spent 24 years in Rio de Janeiro and makes what many consider the best caipirinha in Porto. Cash only.
Gastão Carvalheira spent 24 years living in Rio de Janeiro before returning to Porto and opening Bar Santa Cachaça with his partner Isabel Valente. The bar is tiny - a few square metres - and every available surface is covered in Brazilian-themed objects: bottles of cachaça stacked floor to ceiling, parrots, coconuts, cuddly toucans, hats, flags, and photographs.
Address: Rua de Santa Catarina 800, Porto
